FAQ

How would you describe your style of photography?

My style is typically photojournalism. I allow the day’s events to unfold in a natural process. I’m always looking for the tiny, spontaneous moments that are not obvious – little smiles, quick glances, or quiet interludes – that often result in the most emotional and introspective images of the day. It is about documenting as a witness to the day, story telling, and capturing the moments that define the spirit of the people I am working with.

When it is time for family and group photos, I’m more than happy to get everyone organized. For large groups, I’ve even climbed onto roofs of buildings and up the mast of a boat to ensure that everyone is included in a fun, dynamic photograph.

For photos of just you, the couple, I’ll work closely with you to make some creative portraits that incorporate you into the surrounding scenery. Of course, I’ll be guiding the process here, but I don’t over direct things, since the photos should remain natural and a reflection of your unique personality.

What does your photography fee include?

The process of getting great wedding photos goes far beyond just the wedding day itself. Normally, I’ll meet with you two times before your actual wedding day. This helps to establish a good rapport between us and we can get to know each other better. Being comfortable and relaxed with your photographer makes a big difference to the quality of your photographs.

During the first meeting, we will discuss the rough plan for your wedding day and the types of photographs you are looking to obtain. Here, I will provide you with suggestions on how you can organize and allocate the time during your day so that you have those great photo opportunities, as well as simple items that you can plan in so that you have the highest quality photographs. There may be things that you might have overlooked from a photographic prospective that I’ll be able to provide you guidance on.

At the second meeting, we’ll review in detail your complete wedding day schedule to ensure that nothing we have previously discussed has been missed and we can further solidify all the logistics for the day.

An extensive part of the photography production is in the post wedding editing process. I will carefully review every photograph and make individual creative decisions and adjustments regarding the tone, colour balance, and contrast. The result is a final set of files that has been optimized for both the viewing and printing process. I provide final photos files on a DVD in a mix of colour, black and white, and sepia/antique tones. How much you would like of each is your own choice. I will adjust my production process to suit your preference.

I always have an assistant with me the entire day. They help me to sort out logistics and carry my extra camera gear so that I can devote my time completely to photography. The beautiful backlight that forms a halo around you in the photos of your first dance? That is from my assistant holding a flash that I trigger remotely from my camera.

How many photographs do you take during the day?

For a full day’s photography of an average sized wedding, I provide a minimum of 600 final edited images per photographer. Usually I end up delivering more, often 800 and up. The final number really depends upon how many things happen during the day. The more events there are and the larger the wedding, the more photographs there will be. I don’t restrict the maximum number of photos. You are hiring me to record all the events of your wedding day.

Do you offer video services?

Yes, my associate company specializes in filming and producing wedding videos that complement my photography style. We’ve shot together many times so we are familiar with each other’s requirements and working style.

Do you provide albums?

Through my associate company, we provide a fine range of archival quality albums from classic and contemporary to digital magazine style albums. The layout of each album is tailored specifically to match your chosen set of photos.

Can I make my own prints and albums?

Yes. I work on a creative fee business model; therefore, all final files will be delivered to you on a DVD that you maintain the rights to for all personal uses so you can share them with family and friends and make your own prints and albums. The images are digitally mastered for the highest quality; however, if you bring them to a low quality or one hour printing lab, they may not look as I intended them to due to differences in colour settings or quality and type of paper used. In order to best represent the quality of the images it is highly recommended that you work with us to create your custom prints and albums.
